Business Dia “blog”?

Welcome to the Winter Haven Chamber “Blog.”

Blog: A phenomenon directly developed in the evolution of the internet. The term is short for “Web log.”

These individual journals have their earliest roots in serving as personal diaries of sorts and more importantly ongoing “opinion columns.” Roundly criticized by many as online babble, the blog has emerged as a force to be reckoned with. “Bloggers” as the most prolific contributors are known, are widely credited with exposing the bogus documents used during a 60 minutes segment on George W. Bush’s military matters that led to the downfall of Dan Rather. (For the record, the clue that gave the documents away was the small, elevated “th” in such dates as “September 12th.” The documents used in the segment contained the small letters as produced by such word processing programs as “MicroSoft Word.” At the time that Bush’s military or National Guard matters were recorded, only typewriters were used on such documents. Bloggers saw the discrepency and national news organizations picked up on the story.

Blog’s have evolved into widespread use and most companies and legitimate news organizations now publish one or more. Few Chambers have entered this arena … so here we go. Our business blog will open discussions on matters of commerce and our community. Visit often and feel free to comment. Suggest topics.

We plan to publish meeting and event reminders to our blog as well as late breaking news and economic developments. The best way to stay tuned is to subscribe to our RSS feed and you will receive a brief note each time we publish a new post.
