There is a great deal of construction activity adjacent to the Shoppes On the Ridge on US 27 near Thompson Nursery Road and the Eagle Ridge area. We have learned the project will be a shopping center with at least one major retail location though no company has presently made a commitment. Other area sources tell us that Target and Kohl’s continue to be interested in an East Polk location.
If you could add one business of your choice … what would it be?

I would like to see a Kohls, Target, and Sam’s Club. I think the area could support all three.

I would love to see a Costco in the area, we don’t have one. Target would be nice too.

Local demographics meet the requirements established by Target, please continue to laude our numbers. The area could also certainly use a quality book store. Keep up the good work!

Target would be my absolute first choice, followed by a large bookstore — the demographics would easily support both I would think.

Target would be my absolute 1st choice. I could then stop driving to Lakeland for Target purchases.

I agree with Ginny and Bonnie. Its crazy to have to drive 30-45 minutes to Lakeland to go to a big book store. My vote is for a Barnes and Noble..

A Target store would be a boon for shoppers who appreciate good quality merchandise at reasonable prices. A large book store would also be a fine and much needed addition to our area. We need more quality and less quantity!

A Target, a Barnes & Noble and A Race Trac gas station. There is nowhere to purchase gas out here by the Eagle Ridge Mall. It would also be nice to have a McDonald’s here between the Dundee and Lake Wales locations.

An alternative for walmart would be fantastic! My vote would be for Target.
I also think a Cracker Barrell would enhance our dining choices!

Target would be awesome as well as Kohls. A discout gas station like Race Track would be nice. We have a bookstore at Eagle Ridge Mall, perhaps they could expand on an out-parcel. I think Dalton’s parent company is Books A Million. Maybe someone could show them the demographics. A fine dining restaurant would be a nice addition.

I moved up here from Miami about four months ago and one thing we really enjoyed in Miami was a Dave and Buster’s. It’s really intertaining for all different ages. Everyone in my family really enjoyed that place, also a costco would be great in the area.

If Winter Haven wants to continue towards becoming a “Premier City,” I would love to see a Target, Costco, and a Borders or Barnes & Nobles bookstore/coffeehouse. These anchors enjoy a great following and demographic. Such a development would undoubtedly attract other desireable local tenant space as well!

Costco with a Barnes & Noble would be perfect! No more trips to OBT in Orlando.

Target is always a great idea- but there are so many other great chains no where in the area such as:
*Chicken Kitchen (healthy yummy fast food)
*Jamba Juice (smoothies)
*Whole Food Market (organic and healthy food store)
*Pollo Tropical (latin fast food- healthy)
* Baja Fresh- (great fast mexican food- Taco Bell cannot compare)
*Costco-as metioned before - a great asset
It would be great to have stores that Lakeland does not have to bring us more variety of the southern counties stores and bring over the Lakeland community who is used to those stores found in the large cities. It would proivde a big economy boost since most movers here are from other areas and work in major cities like Tampa and Orlando- let’s stop letting them spend money in those cities and spend it here. No more duplicates of what we already have bring some new businesses!!! :-)

I would love to see a Costco or Sams built on the east side of Winter Haven.

Winter Haven need a Books-a-Million or Barnes and Noble with a Starbucks Coffee eatery in the middle. Sams is being built off the parkway, so I am happy that we will no longer have to travel to north lakeland.

How about a Home Goods? You have to go to Brandon or Orlando to find one….a Tuesday Morning? A Stein Mart? and a Target would be great also!

We need to get whatever stores that will entice a Moe’s, Chipotle or Tijuana Flats to put up a location nearby.

The demographics prove that the area will support upscale restaurants in the area, a Bone Fish or Stonewood Grill would be great on this side of Polk County.

I agree with several other people that a mix of stores and restaurants, not available in Lakeland, would be advantageous. Our cities are looking very homogeneous as it is now. Variety is exciting.

Target - Target - TARGET!! I am a young mom and would love to have a Target and Panera. I attend Golds Gym and take my daughter to Gymboree (in Lakeland) and talk to a lot of young parents like myself who live in Winter Haven - we need more shopping options like Ross, Kohl’s and TJ Max but the best start is Target - hey and that comes with another Starbucks inside so 2 for 1! My friends and I would be SO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!

Winter Haven really needs to improve the area’s shopping and dining options. I moved here from Tallahassee almost 2 years ago and drive to Lakeland or Tampa to do any sort of shopping. Will probably move to Lakeland in the next year or so because of this inconvenience.
Target is a must!!! Especially when their trucks already drive up and down 27 several times a week. Moe’s and Books A Million would be GREAT too! I’d also like to see a large pet store like PetSmart or PetCo come to this area.

I’ll take a lake view or our sunsets over next door shopping any day. There are fine stores here. Population and demographics drive business decisions to locate here. Winter Haven can do little to influence those decisions until population meets their profile.
I occasionally shop Lakeland and Orlando but it’s always great to come home to Winter Haven.

I would love to see any kind of “Big City” store- Target, Barnes and Nobles, Sam’s, or even just a Friday’s. Winter Haven has so much potential, I hope we can fulfill it soon.

Costco is a definite plus for any area. From running in to buy your whole cooked chicken for dinner to a new set of tires for your vehicle…Costco fan since 1988!!
